I've tried both a dual added countif (=countif(data!e:e,">=.9")+countif(data!ae:ae,"=true") result 8) and countifs(data!e:e,">=.9",data!ae:ae,"=true") result 0) and neither result was correct (3). I also tried subtracting a countif from a countif (=countif(data!ae:ae,"=true")-countif(data!e:e,"<.9")). I've tried multiple extra parentheses. I'm not sure why this isn't working. One column is a percentage and the other is one of three results: true, false, NA. Can countif(s) not compare different types of data? I thought they could. I can't do a pivot table because some of the devices this file is on can't access data refresh and pivot table creation.

    I do a monthly quality assurance on all of my employees and the above formula is what I am using to get a percentage for their monthly score. If you add up all of the percentages it works out to 100% but if a column is not applicable to a specific rep then I need the formula to ignore that cell but still have the rest equal 100%. I have four "Categories" worth a total of 25% each with anywhere from 2-4 subcategories per section. So using the formula above if cell D11 was N/A for the work done for the month I would want cells E11 & F11 to equal 12.5% each instead of 8.33%. Is this possible and if so how? Thank you!

    I am looking at 700+ text reviews and would like to understand the frequency that any in a set of words are mentioned in a single formula. Is that possible? My current formula is returning too few results (I assume because it is looking for '+'), and I can't seem to make 'OR' work!

    Current formula:

    In Boolean, I'd simply put:

    (food or cake or tea* or coffee or restaurant or meal* or soup* or lunch* or sandwich or cafe) to return ANY mention of these words.

    I am trying to count item pairs in the same range (row).
    I have tried countifs formulas, but they won't work.
    My data looks something like this:

    1 A B C D
    2 1 12 18 23
    3 1 12 20

    I would like to count if certain pairs are in a certain row, e.g.:
    Does range A2:D2 have 1&12, does it have 1&18, does it have 12&18?
    --> in this case excel should return a 3, cause all three pairs are in that row
    But for row 3 it should only return 1, cause the pairs 1&18 and 12&18 are not in row 2.

    I am greatful for any help I can get.

  7. I have a number of words in a row of cells I wish to count but my problem is I cannot get the countifs to count more than one group of cells with in the same formula. Cells contain the words LABPRAC, GAP, GAPVIADISTANCE. Not all cells have a word and no cell has any more than 1 word in it.

    example
    A1 GAP
    A2 GAP
    A3 GAPVIADISTANCE
    A4 LABPRAC
    A5 GAPVIADISTANCE
    A6 GAP
    A7 LABPRAC
    A8 GAPVIADISTANCE

    What I am trying to do is add the two words GAP & GAPVIADISTANCE together to give me a total for these to words.

    Can you help me as I have tried a few different combinations of the COUNTIFS and SUMIFS formulas but cannot get it to add 2 words from the same cell group together.

  10. I want to run a countif on a range of dates based upon today's date -days to pull in last week's data and then the countif would report number of data points from another column.
    Column A has dates
    Column B has number of days

    want to have a formula that days countif "cell =s today" minus 8 days through minus 3 days, then countif number of cells in another columns that are greater than X number.

  11. Hi! I can't seem to get the right answer in using the countif function with two criteria.

    I wanted to get the number of a segment with a range of specific score. For example, this is the raw data:

    I'm working with a thousand numbers here.

  14. I'm using the countifs function, trying to count non blanks from a previous column that used concatenate. Example:
    Column D is a function =concatenate(A1:A3,B1:B3)
    A B D
    1 a a
    2 b c bc
    3

    =countifs(D1:D3,"*") gives me 3. But this is wrong. Should be 2. Cell D3 is considered a non empty.

    How do I solve it?

    I'm currently using multiple countif functions to extract records from a raw data table (in one worksheet) into a date and time summary table (in another worksheet) which is then conditionally formatted to identify trends in the form of a heat map. On the conditionally formatted worksheet users have the option of using drop down lists to model different options.

    The problem I have is only "one" choice can be made from each drop down list at a time. How do I modify my current countif formulas to count "All" from the drop down list?

    My data tables are too long and complex to include on this post. But below are the three current formulas I have been using within the date and time table:

    the special characters i'm looking for include:

  19. In example #1 for Countifs for text values, what if you want to know how many students passed two or more of the classes?

      It will be quicker and easier to do this using a helper column.
      E.g. column G contains the number of exams passed by each student:
      - Enter =COUNTIF($B2:E2,"P) into G2
      - Copy the formula down to the other cells
      - Then the formula =COUNTIF(G2:G20,">=2") will show the number of students that meets your criteria.

    I am trying to have excel calculate the number of times the value in cells D6:D583 contains a value ">=3" AND cells C6:C583 contains a value of "Blue"

    I don't want it to calculate / include the values in D6:D583 if the value of C6:C583 doesn't contain "Blue"

    I've unsuccessfully tried:

    =COUNTIF(D6:D583,">=3")+COUNTIF(C6:C583,"=Blue")

Hello Svetlana, I've been trying unsuccessfully to find a formula to count numbers that start with certain digits.For example, in a range that includes: 4040345, 40503543, 4065678, 4067865, 4079876, I want Excel to count only those numbers that start with "406" (2 in this case). I tried a combination of Countif + Left but it did not work. Do yo have any idea of a formula that does this calculation? Thank you!!!!!

      You can use an array formula similar to this:
      =SUM(--(NUMBERVALUE(LEFT(A1:A100,3))=406))

      Where A1:A100 is the data range with your numbers.

      Please remember to press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to complete the array formula correctly.

  33. Hello - I am working with a COUNTIFS. I have the data pulling correctly, however, since I am pulling based on date ranges & my raw data has a time stamp in it, I have researched that I need to nest an INT formula. However, when I nest it, it does not work.

    This is my formula, where 'YTD Opened Issues'C:C is the date of the help desk ticket. Dashboard A6 is the start date of the date range & Dashboard B6 is the end date of the date range.

    =COUNTIFS('YTD Opened Issues'!$C:$C,">=" &Dashboard!$A6,'YTD Opened Issues'!$C:$C,"<=" &Dashboard!$B6)

    Right now, this formula appears to not be pulling the count in for tickets that fall on the last day of the date range. I did a test on the YTD Opened Issues tab & used the INT function on the ticket created date, then kept my formula as is, this solved my issues.

    However, I want to be able to not have to modify the raw data pulled out for metric reporting.

    Any help on how to nest this INT in my current function would be greatly appreciated!!

    As such the answer should be:

    In week 4 there were 3 products being repaired
    In week 5 there were 2 products being repaird

    In other words column E should give me

    Any suggestions?

    Here is the formula that won't work:

    D2 is a cell that I want to be able to change the value, every month.

  46. this is what I would like to accomplish. I have a list of words. This list of words could be long but for simplicity, let's say I am looking for any occurrence of orange apple or banana. Any time any of those words show up, I would like to get a count for each occurrence.

    I would like you to get me some bananas, strawberries, oranges, grapes and kiwis.

    I would like for the logic to recongnize that there were 3 occurrences and bring back the number 3. The logic may be in one field or it may be in multiple fields.

    Any thoughts.

      You can calculate apples, bananas and oranges separately, and then sum the results. For example =COUNTIF(D1:D13,"apple")+COUNTIF(D1:D13,"orange")+COUNTIF(D1:D13,"banana")

    2. try COUNTIF(Range,"*banana*") to count all occurrence of banana from the Range

    Within Cells A33:A151, I have options of saying either "LISTING" or "DBL END".

    In cell N152, my current formula is as follows:
    =AVERAGEIF(A33:A151,"LISTING",N33:N151)

    This formula works, however, I am having trouble writing the formula so that when a cell within A33:A151 says "DBL END" (as opposed to "LISTING"), Cell N152 still calculates accordingly.
