Any ideas why this is happening?

  43. We use Excel 2010 at work for schedules. The worksheets containing work schedules are protected from changes by employees with only managers having password access. Our issue is that occasionally when employees go in to view the spreadsheet the file becomes "locked for editing" by the employee. Managers can't get in to make changes. Even if the employee signs in again, they often get the same message (that the file is locked for editing by THEMSELF). We are interested in preventing employees from being able to place the file in read only status at all, and secondly how do we get around the read only status when an employee (who doesn't have the password) some how locks the file for editing. Thank you
